Hills fashion is a winner

The Courier’s Fashion in the Hills advertising feature was recognised alongside the newspaper’s editorial writing at the Country Press SA awards last week.

Fashion in the Hills was named the best advertising feature among regional newspapers in SA, while opinion pieces written by The Courier’s editorial team also claimed first place.

The Country Press SA awards recognise excellence within the regional print media industry in SA.

The Fashion in the Hills feature was a 24-page lift-out that showcased local fashion businesses.

It was created in collaboration with Tiffany Cazzolato and Emily Fels of local boutique store Luna Belle and included stories about local fashion businesses and styled photos showcasing businesses’ products.

It was also run alongside a fashion show that raised money for breast cancer research.

Judge Rob Duffield described the feature as “innovative and beautiful”.

“The stunning feature was laid-out very professionally, befitting a city corporate magazine in order to set it apart from the rest of the paper,” he said.

The Courier’s winning editorials focused on local issues, including the freeway, lack of education infrastructure at Mt Barker and disunity at the embattled Adelaide Hills Council.

Judge Shauna Black said newspaper’s “persistent pursuit of documentation and evidence, and its drive for accountability, make compelling reading”.

The Hills Wanderer magazine also placed second in the best magazine/special publication category.

Louis Mayfield’s story, ‘Harry’s Legacy’, introducing new motorbike training rules, placed second in the best road safety reporting category, The Courier’s headline ‘The Hills Goat Talent’ placed second in the best headline category and Mr Mayfield’s photo of Anne-marie Taplin, which accompanied the story ‘Harry’s Legacy’, placed second in the best news photo category.

Meanwhile, the ‘Rebuild Stirling’ feature placed third in the best community advertising promotion category and Scott Murphy’s photo of a young farmer in tub on a sweltering day placed third in the best photograph category.
