Camaraderie, community and new skills all part of SES volunteering

The SES will hold a volunteer information night at Mt Barker early next week to encourage people to consider joining one of the State’s most “crucial” units.
The Mt Barker SES unit is looking for new volunteers and those interested in joining can find out more and hear from a member of the SES unit on Monday, June 29, between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.
An SES spokesperson said Mt Barker was a crucial unit – something that was highlighted during recent wet weather, when volunteers responded to 36 requests for assistance between June 1 and June 3.
During that period, volunteers assisted with trees that had fallen on houses or obstructed driveways or stormwater than had entered homes.
The spokesperson said the organisation regularly held recruitment nights and encouraged as many people as possible to come and hear about volunteering opportunities.
They said there were a number of benefits associated with volunteering with the SES, including camaraderie and community, helping the community and learning new skills.
The information night will be held in the training room at the Mt Barker Community Centre at 3 Dumas Street, Mt Barker.
