I THANK the Alexandrina Council for listening and including $100,000 in the final annual business plan and budget so that the Lot 10 Langhorne Creek, Strathalbyn project can progress.
I also thank those in the community who took the time to indicate to the council during the consultation period their support for progressing Lot 10.
The inclusion in the budget sends a positive signal to community groups motivated and ready to invest, and who have already started to do the heavy lifting with the council to see this key piece of community infrastructure delivered.
There is a long way to go, and delivery of the project will need to be staged, but Lot 10 is now well placed to attract external grants and funding opportunities sought by the council or the interested parties on the steering group and others waiting to see the direction for this site.
The council and the community can now explore partnering with community groups, government agencies, sporting organisations and their peak bodies, other councils, schools and private enterprise to provide services and programs that will enhance liveability, wellbeing and connectivity outcomes for our entire Fleurieu community.
I am delighted the site is now secured in the pipeline of future capital works.
In my view, this decision is a sound, incremental step to mitigate future financial and social risks for the council, residents and ratepayers.
It is an inter- and intra-generational project that will be a catalyst for our community and optimise every dollar invested there.
Lot 10 will one day be home to purpose-built, contemporary recreational and sporting infrastructure.
It will have high visual amenity and drive property values and investment in and around Strathalbyn.
A perfect example of a council decision that enables the community.
Sue Miller, Strathalbyn
