EV growth
IT will be interesting to know from which reliable site G. Inkster (The Courier, October 11) gleaned his facts regarding EV sales in the UK and why he just selected certain points to support his flawed argument to make a case against EVs and the environment.
According to the Society of Motor Manufacturing and Trades (SMMT UK), plug-in electric car registrations have increased by almost 250,000 from less than a year ago and now hold a fifth of the market.
The best sales were in July with one car registered every 60 seconds.
However, despite this increase, UK sales have fallen behind the growth in Europe; maybe this is what he meant.

National ignorance
AT the time of writing and without knowledge of the Voice Referendum outcome, reflections of the campaign have proved how little Aboriginal history has been recorded or taught.
Our education has developed a largely ignorant adult population with respect to our First Nations People and few people seriously have engaged with them in conversations and collaborations.
Australians have cheered their sporting qualities and appreciated their artwork, but a deeper understanding of their culture, values and abilities go untapped.
To quote Pat Dobson: ‘Are we going to be at the table or are we going to be picking up the crumbs?’.

Wonderful idea
HAVING a Christmas festival on December 15 and 16 at the site of the future Mt Barker town centre is a wonderful decision.
Above all it will give the Mt Barker Council and developer Burke Urban an opportunity to get a better idea of the kind of space required for a real town square which hopefully will be the centrepiece of a newly designed town centre.

Low act
TO the person who trespassed onto my property and defaced my self-purchased “Yes” sign, I hope that you are more committed to supporting Aboriginal people than you are to upholding the law. It was a low act.
Where was the respect.

Serious matter
CRUELTY to animals is no laughing matter as seems to be the case with Dean Clifford, (“In the naughty corner”, The Courier, October 11)
Indeed, I consider this matter is so serious that C.A.T.S. Cats Assistance To Sterilise Inc has spent over 33 years successfully reducing this cruelty.
The intended slur of checking Google was irrelevant, as C.A.T.S. evidence comes from hands-on experience, working with the cats and the cat supporters in the community where the cats live, not from paper qualifications by so-called “scientists”, who have little understanding of actual reality, or ill-informed writers who never do anything to help, but try to undermine those who have successfully assisted animals.

Bat threat
COULD we please revisit the topic of the fruit bats now the Nipah virus is on the march?
Alongside the Hedra virus these things pose a serious threat to humans and animals, not to mention fruit crops.
When I raised my concern some years ago about the population beginning to establish itself in Adelaide, the government department concerned fobbed me off with the “important for pollination of our flora” B.S.
That may be true where they have always been closer to the equatorial tropics, but I am very sceptical about this being true for SA.
Now because of wilful inaction a small problem has become a big one.
I’m more annoyed at our useless, but well paid, taxpayer funded bureaucrats than the bats themselves who are ultimately just looking for food.

Well cared for
I WANTED to share the wonderful experience I had on the October 6 at the new emergency room facilities at the Mt Barker hospital.
After being rushed to the hospital having had a fall and hurting my head, I received the best healthcare and service in my life thanks to the wonderful staff at the amazing new emergency room.
The nurses and doctors there made sure I was comfortable and well cared for from the moment I arrived.
My deepest gratitude to all the staff working that day, you made a scary experience the best it could possibly be.
Jenny McLeay, Mt Barker
Practical evidence
I HAVE watched Cat Assistance To Sterlise’s growth for over 30 years, well before Google was thought of.
And C.A.T.S., under the guidance of Christine Pierson, has always used practical evidence from community people to evolve their scheme, which works so well.
A well-respected Aussie scientist said recently on ABC radio that the loss of our native species is simply the consequence of loss of species’ habitats ... and nothing to do with cat predation.
