I REFER to your front page article Hills heroes (The Courier, July 20) continued on page 8.

It is very encouraging to see younger people “put their hands up” to help out fellow Australians in helpless/hopeless situations.

Being prepared to get out of their comfort zone to assist others is commendable.

But seriously, what has happened to the gender balance that we have to have, especially in the media?

I am sure there was a cross section of genders and ages of people that went to NSW to help out.

But we see two photos of only one female volunteer.

Where are the males and other females that went to NSW?

Turn on your TV, maybe ABC, and count how many men you see compared to the number of women.

I have seen a 25/75 ratio many times.

And the women have to be a doctor/professor/CEO, but the men are “just men”.

Ita Buttrose seems to have no knowledge of gender balance.

Who are we trying to brainwash, and how do our gender balance rules allow this in 2022?

I know, I am white, elderly and male.

My opinion doesn’t count.
