Cashback vouchers a welcome boost for Blackwood business

After the owners of The Fish Man at Blackwood applied to be part of the State Government’s Summer Plan Dining Cashback program, they noticed a quick increase in business.

The program aims to support coastal hospitality businesses and seafood retailers and will offer 300,000 South Australians 50% cashback, of up to $50, when they dine or shop at participating locations.*

Up to 60,000 Dining Cashbacks will be distributed to consumers via monthly draws until March 2026.

The Fish Man co-owner Arthur Louca said his business had already seen the benefits of the program. 

“People are encouraged now to spend a little bit more so they can get the full benefit of the cashback – that’s what we’ve noticed,” he said.

“We’ve had a few more clients that you wouldn’t have normally.

“But generally, it’s our locals that have supported us and they’re getting a bit of support back ... which is great, so everybody’s winning.”

After news of the algal bloom broke earlier this year, but before the start of the Dining Cashback program, business at The Fish Man had suffered.

“It scared people for weeks and weeks,” Mr Louca said. “It was like a ghost town.”

Mr Louca said the business decided to apply to be part of the Dining Cashback program after they were informed about it by local MP Catherine Hutchesson.

“We had baby steps – the first few days, people weren’t sure of what’s going on, we weren’t sure of what’s going on ... and now we’re pretty confident,” Mr Louca said.

He said customers could be confident that seafood sold by retailers like his was safe and hopes the cashback program will make a big difference coming into Christmas. “So take full advantage of it and look out for our specials.”
