It is always deeply concerning when district councils propose the sell-off of community-owned reserves in order to, among other things, pay down debt.
Reserves can often be bequests from deceased persons who thought that open, green spaces should be preserved for human enjoyment and provide habitat for birds and animals. Reserves are not there to maximise return on investment.
Why have the reserves at Formby Street and Sissons Road, Strathalbyn stayed undeveloped?
Green space is more important than ever and as we see so-called urban infill destroying gardens, trees and ambience in the Adelaide suburbs, so developers can make lots of money, do we really want that for the Hills and country regions?
