School silent on attack

It was “unacceptable” that the Birdwood High School did not report a violent incident involving two of its students to police, the State education department has said.According to the Sunday Mail, Year 11 student Richard Miller, 16, was allegedly punched in the face up to 20 times in the schoolyard by another student on February 13.
Richard’s mother was called to the school and after seeing his injuries, took him to hospital and later notified police.
A department spokeswoman said “it is expected  that principals contact the police and also contact an ambulance when an incident of this nature occurs”.
Birdwood High School principal Steve Hicks could not be reached for comment by deadline.
