Roundabout for Bald Hills Road

A roundabout will be built at a dangerous Mt Barker junction even if a landholder refuses to sell the final 80sqm of land needed for the project.

The Mt Barker Council will built a roundabout at a Bald Hills Road intersection.

The Mt Barker Council decided this week to press ahead with the long planned upgrading of the notorious intersection of Bald Hills and Springs roads, even if it has to compulsorily acquire the land.
It follows months of protracted negotiations between the council and one landholder, who has been refusing to sell the fourth and final parcel of land needed to expand the junction.
The Brockhoff family wanted the council to agree to return to it about 1.5ha of land that was compulsorily acquired near the Laratinga wetlands in 2000 before it would agree to sell the site needed for the road works.
But, while the council is working to give the Laratinga land back to the family, that process is subject to lengthy public consultation and the approval of the State Government.
