Residents to okay rallies

Car rally organisers have to obtain written agreements from every resident along their “special stages” if they want to drive on Adelaide Hills Council roads.
The new condition for Scouts Rally SA and the Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally was adopted by elected members last week.
It has been welcomed by rally opponents but has frustrated event spokesmen who don’t know what they will do if a resident objects and the council refuses to grant permission.
“We’ll deal with that when the time comes,” said Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally media liaison officer Andrew Admiraal, whose event runs in mid May.
He called the new condition an “11th hour” decision “because of a minority of residents”.
