One Card library network increases borrower choices

Alexandrina Council library customers now have access to over 20 times more items under a new system linking libraries around the State.

Strathalbyn library staff Mark Seagrim, left, and Troy Stevens said they had noticed a significant increase in stock being received from and sent to other libraries since the facility joined the One Card library network.

The council’s libraries at Strathalbyn and Goolwa were some of the first around SA to join the One Card network earlier this year, which allows users to borrow items from any library in SA using one card.
There are currently four library services with 15 locations around Adelaide using the system, meaning their associated customers can now access more than one million items, including books and DVDs, from the participating facilities.
This compares to the 50,000 items that were previously available at the Alexandrina libraries.
Alexandrina libraries systems and web administrator Gabi Sahlberg said the new system had been well received by customers.
