Moving towards a battle of wits

Hills children will get the chance to test their chess skills when the first Adelaide Hills Junior Chess Championships are held this month.

David Koetsier has been coaching pupils for the first Hills Junior Chess Championships.

The competition, run over three weeks on August 13, 20 and 27, is open to primary or secondary school student who live or attend school in the Hills.
Event co-organiser and chess coach David Koetsier said “chess has always been popular but no one noticed it”.
Mr Koetsier has been teaching Hills students to play chess for the past five weeks at school-holiday workshops at St Mark’s Lutheran Primary and subsequent classes at Cornerstone College.
St Michael’s Lutheran Primary has also taken part with a team participating in the Inter-School Junior Chess League.
