Create your future workshop

Create Foundation are running a program called Create Your Future for young people over 15 years of age with an out–of-home care experience.
The Create Your Future program teaches young people essential life skills for transitioning out of care successfully, such as learning how to identify services and agencies they may be entitled to; job readiness skills; managing money and problem solving skills.
Create is offering a workshop called The Great Race which is a fun event aimed to assist young people with finding out about Government and community support services available in their local area. This workshop takes place in Adelaide city and will assist young people transitioning to independence with services relating to accommodation, financial entitlements, health and education, training and employment.
Children growing up in out-of-home care (i.e. foster, residential or kinship care) can move houses and schools as many as 50 times. No wonder the statistics can be bad – 35% are homeless within their first year of leaving care; 46% of boys end up in trouble with the law; only 35% finish school; and 29% are unemployed.
