Crafers viticulturist named SA’s top rural woman

A third-generation viticulturist from Crafers West has been named the State’s top rural woman.

Crafers West viticulturist Mary Retallack is presented with the 2012 Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation Rural Women’s Award by Agriculture Minister Gail Gago.

Mary Retallack was presented with the 2012 Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation Rural Women’s Award last week.
She will use the $10,000 prize to set up a website as a meeting place and information hub for women working in the wine industry.
“I’m honored and I’m delighted to receive the award because that shines a light on all the talented rural and regional women, especially those in the wine industry,” Ms Retallack said.
“It’s the start of a pretty exciting journey and I’m really looking forward to being able to get cracking on developing that particular project. I just see it as a tremendously exciting opportunity to make a difference in the lives of wine industry women.”
The website aims to share wine industry career opportunities for women to help retain them in the sector.
