Business CEOs sleep rough for homeless

A piece of cardboard in Adelaide Oval was a far cry from his comfortable and warm bed in Stirling, but Simon Cross maintains taking part in this year’s Vinnies CEO Sleepout was all worthwhile.

Stirling resident and managing director of a property development company, Simon Cross, took part in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout to raise awareness and money for homelessness.

The managing director of property development, investment and management company Gemtree Property joined business and community leaders across the nation in raising money for and awareness of homelessness by sleeping outside on Thursday evening.
It was the first time Mr Cross had taken part in the event which aims to change perceptions of the issue of homelessness, which affects about 8000 people in the State.
He hunkered down in the Adelaide Oval stands, to avoid the rain and some of the cold, placing his cardboard on the seats and lying across it in a sleeping bag.
“I think it got down to about five degrees but if we were sleeping out on the oval it would have been colder,” he said.
