Bookshop embraces ‘Bloomsday’
Every year on June 16 literature fans around the world gather to celebrate the life and works of Irish author James Joyce.
The occasion is “Bloomsday”, in honor of the lead character Leopold Bloom in Joyce’s most famous and controversial work, Ulysses.
Joyce’s home town of Dublin, the setting of the book, is the hub of the festivities but this year a Stirling book store specialising in rare and second-hand works will join the party.
Chapter Two Books is holding its own Bloomsday readings under the direction of well-known Hills book seller Nynke van der Schaaf.
Hills residents Kevin Comber, Jenny Dyster, Sophie and Tim Edhouse, Bianka Feo, Brian Fox and Rachael Mead will be reading passages from Ulysses that have been selected for their theatrical presence.
