Belair Targa rally stage backfires for Octagon

A public backlash has prompted the organisers of the Targa Adelaide car rally to cancel the proposed stage through Belair National Park in late August.
However, organising company Octagon is still seeking permission to run a stage through the Para Wirra Recreation Park near Kersbrook.
“We felt more time needed to be invested in consultation with stakeholders that were clearly voicing their opinions,” Targa sporting director Stuart Benson said.
“We wanted to have the opportunity to build confidence in their minds … there was not enough time to do that at this stage.”
The Para Wirra application to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) asks for the stage to be “transport only” with cars driving below the speed limit.
